Medicaid and Housing

The National Center for Housing + Health helps states, managed care, provider agencies, and communities understand and leverage Medicaid opportunities to increase housing and services alignment. Services aligned with affordable, high-quality housing promote good health and save money by lowering the amount that communities spend on costly crisis care.

Our Medicaid Work

The Center offers training and technical assistance to help states implement Medicaid authorities for services that address housing-related social needs. We also help our partners make the case for Medicaid coverage of key services in their states.

We support our partners in leveraging Medicaid, including:

  • Rate studies to help states, communities, and individual providers determine the actual costs of delivering quality housing-related services based upon the real costs of providing these services.
  • Medicaid Crosswalks provide state-specific, concrete strategies that advance systems alignment between housing and Medicaid. Learn more about Medicaid Crosswalks.
  • Medicaid Academies are trainings and tools to help community-based organizations that specialize in addressing health-related social needs become Medicaid-enrolled providers. Learn more about Medicaid Academies.
  • Training and technical assistance to build bridges between housing and healthcare to create collaborative, effective partnerships.
